Bon Jovi
Hyde Park 2003
Review by Juli Migliorini
Back again! This is getting to be a bit of a habit! The 80s and 90s held their own magic, but then came the new millennium; Crush 2000, One Wild Night 2001 and now Bounce 2003.
Saturday 28th June 2003 Hyde Park, London.
A beautiful day for a picnic in the park
the party started early.
7.25pm. Hushed atmosphere on the field everyones in church waiting for the preacher to arrive.
7.30pm. Q. Howd u take 92,000 people from a whisper to a scream?
A. Bounce, Bad Name, Runaway, Everyday
. Living on a Prayer!
On went the guys ..Faith .Wanted (one..just one of the highlights) they kept cranking it up. The always awesome Lay your Hands, ..didnt see anyone not singing, even the next generation knew the words! Saturday Night then
Older especially for the older brigade, This is for u guys..thanks for staying with us JBJ
Richie did Ill be There the Sambora faithful, myself included, thought Heaven was in the heart of London! Amazing guitar solos too numerous to mention, magical drums, and bass .. bass to shake your soul!
Jons back on stage....still looking good in the black leather. In these Arms, in my humble opinion, was possibly the best Ive ever heard it. Could it get better?
Sleep when Im Dead - with a twist sympathy for the devil great arrangement. I got the Girl..with Jon, Rich and Davies daughters dancing on the stage then...Blood on Blood, for me.. Bon Jovi at their best.
Little bit of fun with 'Dancing in the Street' and 'Rocking all over the World', then as the sun was setting over my home town, and after a prod at Oasis, Jon introduced Ray Davies an extraordinary 'Lola' followed a much appreciated performance from one of our older statesmen.
Following that beautiful London sunset the lights and screens came into their own and again the atmosphere intensified.
From the darkened stage came the familiar .Is there a doctor in the house? and the heat turned up again with 'Bad Medicine', 'Shout', 'These Days'.. .'Captain Crash' brought tears to many eyes. Then 3 hours, 3 encores and 30 songs later .an unbelievably heart-wrenching acoustic version of 'Never Say Goodbye' brought an incredible night to a close; leaving everyone wondering if it really was goodbye. In 83 they said 20 years.
Just as the immense crowd reluctantly began to make their way to the exits a brilliant firework display lit up the sky. Nobody wanted to go home . 'Bad Name' emanated from Marble Arch underground, and Sunday in Bond Street was like a Bon Jovi convention!
Criticism? The only question I heard at the gig "where was Always?". Another problem - the box office printed the wrong opening time on the net and worked very slowly. Queues were drastic and resulted in many many people missing the beginning of the band.
Quote of the day: (by popular demand!) Havent u people got homes to go to?...Youll find me in jail if I run over here Aw f**k it lets play jbj
The guys can be sure the fans will keep the faith until the next time whenever that may be . Happy 4th of July to the long haired rocknroll band from Jersey u did America proud.
Did the park Rock?..... Just a bit!
